Gone down hill

This used to be a good company to buy knives from. I have bought and sold their products for years. But their customer service
Is horrible their sales people are lazy and do not care about your orders accuracy or whether you get your order or not. I did not want to go elsewhere to purchase my products. I had to they gave me no choice. My guess is they want to get rid of their long time dealers. They would not let me place a phone order for over 3- weeks keep saying their payment system is down. For 3- weeks yea right. I was born at night not last night.

Reliable and Trustworthy Retailer

I've purchased several items from this company both in person and online and I've been very happy with my experience. They're one of the oldest and most reliable online knife retailers. They do sell cheap knives and don't apologize for it, but you should always be aware of what you're buying. I've bought several mid to high range knives and been satisfied.

The return process probably needs to be updated, but my experience was good there as well.

Do not recommend

Absolutely suggest staying away from this store, was sent damaged items 3 times.. treated poorly by management while trying to fix it, then ignored all together...all while still being sent their stupid catalog after 5 attempts to be removed from that list. What a joke

No order cancellation option

No order cancellation option and you have to pay for return shipping if you get damaged goods. I will stick to real, reputable, knife sites.

Most of their china knives cost more to ship than the knife itself. So you just throw them in the trash and buy real stuff.

2 Orders and 1 Return

I've purchased knives from their website and the retail location in Tennessee. All of my experiences have been great. I ordered several knives before Christmas because of a sale. 1 came in broken and 1 felt cheaper than I expected because of the brand and price. The return process was not terrible. The woman I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful. I will definitely shop more with them.

I also appreciate the exclusive knives and items that they have and their sales. They usually have some custom items that aren't at a terribly high price point either. You just have to keep in mind that this store started before the internet and I think they have a ways to go until they've fully caught up with the way internet commerce is today. It's easy to get mad when you have the Amazon Instant Gratification Syndrome, but not every online retailer can afford that. I'd rather do business with a company like this than a mega corporation.

If you were unsure or nervous about a purchase from them before this, I hope it helped settle your mind. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for, so if you go too cheap, beware.

Seems to be in period of adjustment

For knife collectors, SMKW was a solid retailer for years. They were "automatic", as
Is sometimes said. But recently there are some no-so-welcome changes to the online catalog.
(The only one I use.) I received a defective Case knife, and wished to return it. They don't
Make it easy. While most online retailers today make this a painless and quick transaction,
SMKW makes you call into CS, go over this issues, and wait for a "yay" or "nay". Even more
Ridiculous, one finds a yellow paper inside the shipping box. To complete the return, you MUST
Laboriously complete this form, by hand, name, address, the whole 9 yards, It's a PITA, it's
Unnecessary with modern techniclogy, and I imagine it keeps down the number or returns.

Tha final "kick in the head"? The customer is advised s/he has to wait up to 4 weeks for the return
To post! Now, not everyone is amazon, but amazon does this in ONE Day! - Instead of 4 weeks?
Come on, guys - I used to buy from you often, but these types of tactics can only serve to
Push your good customers away, which I think is a shame.

I also noted that "Tyler" Pipes is now the President of SMKW. "Kevin" Pipes was the President for the
Longest time, and he really did a fantastic job. Perhaps "Tyler" Pipes" is in the midst of learning the ropes. Just some speculation.

Very nice

From my one order I can say prices were good. Shipping was way faster than I thought it would be. The stuff they sent me was in new working condition. There were a few spam flyers for completely unrelated products in the box but they were small and not too much of a waste of paper. There was also a return/exchange form which I won't need, but it's a nice to have so I wouldn't have to go look for their return policies somewhere.

No customer service

I placed an order while driving late at night and picked the wrong item, many of these items look similar, and tried to cancel first thing the following morning. This company obviously ignored my requests and shipped it anyway! It's my mistake, of course, but I tried to resolve it as soon as I could. I sent 3 emails to two different departments and also tried to call 3 times attempting to cancel the order, starting the very next morning. Each time, I got the same excuse - we are understaffed due to snow and Covid and nobody is here to help you. Why is it the customer is always the one who has to be understanding that Covid is impacting trade! Yes, there is an impact from COVID, it's also the reason I don't have the extra money to pay now to SHIP IT BACK! If you can't properly service the people supporting your business, then STOP SELLING! Now, I don't want to order the correct one from them.
I have to file with PayPal, pay 10.00-12.00 to send it back now with nothing to show for it, take time off work to go to the post office, and then wait for my money to be returned. Thanks for all your understanding during a time when people don't have the money to spend on nothing! You could have cancelled the order, let me order the one I wanted and got the sale, and saved yourself as many negative reviews as I can find sites - but you didn't. I work long, hard hours for my money, like most Americans and I don't appreciate wasting it because you can't properly service a customer.
